Brown Somerset British Shorthairs owe their rich chocolate colouring to careful breeding that introduced the chocolate gene into traditional British Shorthair lines. While the iconic Blue (Grey) coat and Lilac variants remained popular, breeders selectively paired cats carrying this recessive gene to develop the striking brown shade without losing the breed’s signature stocky build and calm temperament. Sharing ancestry with the British Longhair, which emerged when longhair genes appeared after WWII, the Brown Somerset variant adds a rare and beautiful dimension to the beloved British Shorthair family.

Exclusive and endearing in equal measure, their semi-long coat is a result of the Turkish Angora and Persian longhair gene - emerging as an increasingly popular breed.
